Transforming Bad Experiences Into Good

Updated: May 18, 2022

It's easy to slip into negative self-talk. Sometimes it feels like one bad experience rolls over into another bad experience, and the next thing you know you feel out of control and unable to manage all the emotions and feelings that come along with it.

Below is the best way to turn bad experiences into experiences that reflect the life you want to live.

Be willing to see things from a different perspective. Right now, you may have tunnel vision or feel like there's nothing you can do to change your situation. But, let me assure you, that with a little willingness and openness to see from a different perspective, you can greatly affect how you see yourself, your experiences, and the world around you.

You are in charge of how you see things. You are in charge of defining each experience you have. Don't be afraid to redefine your experiences, so that they can serve you rather than hold you back.

A few simple mantras:

"I will take my experience and choose to learn and grow."

”Struggles are an opportunity for me to create the life experiences that I want.”

" I am open to new ways of thinking and acting."

“ At any moment I can choose a different path, a different perspective.”

"I am open to a new perspective."

"I give myself permission to grow."

Granted, perspective shifts don’t always happen instantly, but when continually practiced, you will notice a difference. Like strengthening a muscle, practice is key to staying open and being able to see what you can’t always see.

You are training your mind to look for the good, for new support, new opportunities, new experience, etc. You are training your mind to see differently.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the “collection of models, techniques and strategies for modelling excellence, in order to help us better understand how our thought processes and behavior, including how the language we use, influences the way we think and the results we get.“

Check out my earlier blog to learn more about NLP and how it can impact your perspective:

As you remain open, be willing to let go of the details: how you need to feel, what needs to happen in order to feel differently, when it needs to happen, etc. It's more important to focus on what is within our control right now. What tools do we have right now, that we can use?

Perhaps the most important tool we have is being aware of our self-talk, staying open to new perspectives, and continuing to look for ways we can grow and benefit from our experiences.
